Dr Tanzil Rahman MLA to host inaugural Fong Lim FANFARE Festival, celebrating band music!
Dr Tanzil Rahman MLA is proud to announce and host FANFARE, a vibrant celebration of band music from Friday July 4 to Saturday July 6, concentrated in his electorate of Fong Lim (see attached poster).
Presented under the auspices of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, events will be delivered in association with partners from the University of Sydney Conservatorium of Music (USYD), the Sydney Grammar School, Dinah Beach Cruising Yacht Association (DBCYA), Ton’s Bistro at Dinah, Haileybury Rendall School, NT Music School, Australian American Association, and Government House.
The mini festival will feature three exciting performances by the renowned 21-piece jazz Sydney-based big band Dr V’s Swing Thing, led by acclaimed saxophonist, bandleader, conductor, educator and composer David Theak (Leader of the Bachelor of Music Jazz Performance Program at USYD) (see bio).

Dr Rahman said, “Growing up in Darwin I benefited from an amazing musical education and fondly recall the excitement of watching touring band performances – we’re hoping to provide something similarly fun and inspiring for young and old alike.”
He added, “We’re starting small but mighty in 2025 and fingers-crossed going to expand FANFARE over the next few years – hopefully involving lots of local wind bands, brass bands, and big bands to put on gigs across some of Fong Lim’s hidden gem locations!’
