The Country Women’s Association is hosting the “Balance the Scales” speakers and high tea event for International Women’s Day on Sunday 8 March 2026.
Event description
Balancing the Scales for dignity, safety, and justice for every woman and girl
Balance the Scales is a promise that every woman and girl — regardless of background or identity — should be safe, heard, and free to shape her own life.
Yet in 2026, too many women across Australia and around the world are still denied that fair go. Discriminatory laws, policies, and practices persist. Gender-based violence remains widespread, and structural barriers continue to prevent too many women and girls from seeking or receiving justice.
These barriers are not inevitable. They are built — and they can be dismantled.
Equality is not about advantage for some; it is about dignity, safety, and fairness for all. When women and girls stand equal, families are stronger, workplaces are fairer, communities thrive, and society becomes safer for everyone.
This International Women’s Day, join the CWA to Balance the Scales together.
We are honoured to welcome Elizabeth Morris AM, Chief Judge of the NT Local Court, who will speak on how we can advance fairness and justice for women and girls in the Top End.
We'll also hear from:
- Judy Anictomatis, President, CWA NT
- Mary Pocock, International Officer, CWA NT
- Chris Osborne, Chair, Top End Women's Legal Service
All proceeds from this event will be donated to the Top End Women’s Legal Service.
Guests will enjoy high tea served on arrival, featuring a selection of savoury and sweet treats — including, of course, scones with jam and cream.
